Hello. Still no power at homebase, so I’m staying at a hotel in Boston. Heading into Rhode Island tomorrow to check out RISD, so if you happen to be in the area and see a pale teenage boy with thick frames and halloween colored converse, say something.
This week has been weird as hell. All I’ve done is draw and listen to Sonic Youth and read a whole bunch of books all day every day. It’s starting to feel like groundhog day, I suppose. I’m not explaining it well. I’ll probably be able to post work on Sunday or Monday

I posted this earlier, but there was something messed up with the color depending on what monitor I viewed it on. So here’s the final thing. I had a lot of fun drawing this kinda androgynous punk character and coloring it in photoshop last week, so I thought I’d do it again.
Things from this week:
Janie Jones - The Clash
Jeff Smith interview on ISR
Satellite - Guster
American Psycho - Brett Easton Ellis
Ant Hill Excavation

Some sketches, a Toth study, and another sketch with some quick colors thrown on. I guess I was into drawing forests the last few days? It wasn’t a conscious decision.
Things I’ve been into this week:
Starting Over - Macklemore x Ryan Lewis
Engine - NMH
Wild Children - Ales Kot & Riley Rossmo
I finished drawing Bitter Liquid about a year ago. Feels like work on that book was eons in the past. I still haven’t really looked through it. blehrgh.

607345 asked: i might be applying for the pre-summer course at sva, not cartooning though most probably filmmaking or computer Art: digital filmmaking and motion graphics, it would be great if you could tell me a bit about your experience there :) as an international student (not living in ny or the states) i would have to apply for housing, were you apart of the SVA housing or did you have your own housing? thanks, and btw your art is beautiful :-)
Thank you for the compliment. SVA was a real great time. The program itself was kind of average, and not something I’d either praise or criticize. The people I met, however, made the whole thing really memorable. I had this really lovely family-like dynamic with ten or so other kids in the whole SVA building; this included roommates and just random kids I’d met in the lobby or on the way to class. It was really, really nice to talk to people that knew all the same art, music, movies, etc. I still keep in contact with most of my friends from SVA. I just got back from hanging out with one of them, actually. It was like no time had passed at all.
And I was a part of the housing, yeah. You’re a block or two away from where you work during the day, which was nice. On paper, the dorm I stayed in sounds pretty awful. Plastic mattresses and a busted phone/microwave/air conditioner. But I didn’t give a shit at all. I was having such a stellar time that nothing phased me for three weeks.
That’s my experience, anyhow. I’d reccommend you go for it. I don’t think I know anyone who was in the two programs you mentioned, but if I remember anyone, I’ll have them drop you a line. Hope this helps!

Anonymous asked: where do you want to go to college?
Cooper Union and Risd are my top choices, but I have a general interest in checking out SCAD, Pratt, Cal Arts, and Art Institute of Boston. SVA’s my safety school, for sure.

Some sketchbook stuff and studies of Searle, Columbia, and Toth. The first two guys were started as studies of pieces seen in MoMA’s book on german expressionism, but got kind of mutilated into something else as I attempted to draw them.

Aaand that’s where the book was supposed to end. Still more to draw.
I won’t be posting many comic pages in the next month or so, as I work on writing these last fifty pages. I’ll still be doing little illustrations and what not, so I’ll post those whenever. I’ve been fighting with a portrait of Alice Glass for the last couple of days, so I’ll post that, should I manage to get it right.
also, here are some things I’ve read/enjoyed/listened to over the last week or two, and I reccommend you do the same:
These Liz Suburbia zines (thanks for all the extra stuff, Kevin!)
The Adderall Diaries
This interview with Vasilis Lolos
This interview with Benjamin Marra
This interview with the Black Keys
Midnight City - M83
Daredevil: Born Again
Plague - Crystal Castles
